Wine for Christmas 2019

Christmas Wine

Italian Wine

For Christmas this year, we have compiled a list of, not too expensive, easy to find, magic Italian wines.

Italian wine is very food friendly, and we believe this list can fit all the most tradittional Christmas food.

No Bubbles no Party!

Ferrari Trento Brut is a Blanc de Blanc from 100% Chardonnay. It is a creamy and citrusy sparkling wine with a nice hint of biscuits and minerals in the aftertaste.

It goes well with all types of starters, hors d'oeuvres, antipasti, fish, and seafood. In fact these bubbles are so food friendly that you can drink them for the whole Christmas meal.

Food Friendly Whites

If cured meat, pasta, or fish is on your Christmas meny, you need to pick up some medium bodied chrispy white wines:

Pieropan Soave is our choice. It is a young and juicy Soave Classico from Veneto, with a good length characterized by ripe fruit, apple and citrus. The grapes are 85% Garganega and 15% Trebbiano.

My Time Scarbolo is something you want to try. It is a Friulano Blend from the producer Scarbolo in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and it tastes both exotic and elegant. 40% Chardonnay, 30% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Friulano.

Food Friendly Reds

High acidity and low tannins works best with all the trimmings of Christmas food.

Our selected red wines are produced by two Italian female winemakers living 900 miles away from each other: Arianna Occhipinti and Elisabetta Foradori:

Il Frappato by Occhipinti is a typical Frappato from Vittoria in vulcanic Sicily. Fruity and fresh red berries with a long aftertaste. 100% Frappato.

Foradori Vigneti by Foradori is a Teroldego from the Dolomite mountains. Slightly developed, characterized by ripe dark berries, licorice and herbs, hints of barrels, with a firm aftertaste. 100% Teroldego.

Something Bold

Tedeschi Amarone Classico is a smoot and rich, great value Amarone Classico.

For dinner, Amarone goes especially well with roased meat, rich beefy stews, and rich stuffed turkey. For dessert, Amarone is fantastic to both mince pies and chocolate based Christmas puddings.

Sweet Ending

Marco di Bartoli Marsala Superiore is a 10 year aged Marsala from Sicily.

This fortified, semi-dry wine is brilliant at the end a meal, with or without desserts, and with any type of cheese. 100% Grillo.

Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
