The typical Murcia Rosado DOC is 100% Monastrell.
Garnacha, Tempranillo, Shiraz and other grapes are also allowed in the blend.
French winemakers settled in the area after Phylloxera killed their crops in the mid 1800's. The hot and dry, yet windy area resembled the area in France where they grew Mourvedre grapes , hence the Spanish Monastrell's birth in Murcia.
It gets incredibly hot here in the summer, which inevitably raises the sugar levels in the grapes.
