Cerasuolo di Vittoria is the only Sicilian DOCG (2005). You also find a DOCG Classico which means that it spends more time in the bottle aging: DOCG at least 3 months, DOCG Classico 18-24 months.
The name Vittoria comes from where it originated: Vittoria a small town in the province of Ragusa (South East Sicily). Although it can be produced also in the neighbour provinces of Catania and Caltanissetta.
Cerasuolo di Vittoria is made with 2 black grapes: Nero D`Avola (50-70%) and Frappato (30-50%).
Nero d'Avola grape gives body and Frappato grape gives elegance, fruit and floral taste.
Red sandy terroir, hot mediterranean clima and sea breeze contribute to make a wine that can age a little longer than a typical rosé. Aging flavors are: dry prune, chocolate, leather and tobacco.
