Trentino Alto Adige

Trentino Alto Adige / Südtirol (South Tyrol in English) is located in northern Italy, on the border to Austria.

Before 1918 it was part of the Austrian-Hungarian "County of Tyrol". The territory was occupied by Italy at the end of the First World War and annexed to Italy in 1919.

Early wine production was dominated by local Austrian red wines like Lagrein and Vernatch (Schiava).

Today white wines are more important, mostly Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Bianco, and Chardonnay.

Upcoming wines are Savignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
