Here I am in Bordeaux, Margaux Appellation, Château Paloumey in Ludon Medoc.
End of August. 35 degrees Celsius outside. Margaux is the warmest top appellation in the Left Bank.
After the thermic shock of the barrel cellar, it´s time to taste!
I soon find my favourite one! The fruit bomb, of course.
Surprise: 23% Petit Verdot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 55% Merlot.
And, yes, I did taste the violets: Margaux wines are known to be floral!
I really enjoyed the wine in the middle, which is usually less aged and less tannic than the last one (3 bottles tasting).
Black, fleshy fruit. Greedy on the palate and a pleasant sweetness typical of the Petit Verdot grape.
This Château is planted with 23% Petit Verdot which is unique on the appellation.
Maceration from 20 to 26 days.
30% Malolactic fermentation (MLF) in new barrels.
12 months aging.
1/3 of new wood.
If wine were music, this one would be a hard rock song.
Look at that soil!
General rule: poor soils make good wine, and this seems the case.
Walking in between the vineyards rows is a challenge for my ballerina shoes.
Like walking on a sandy beach with shoes full of sand.
Soil: Gravel, sand, pebbles.
