Port is a fortified wine from the Douro Valley in Portugal.
It is typically a sweet, red dessert wine, but it also comes in dry, semi-dry, and white varieties.
Name | Description |
---|---|
White | Golden Port from white grapes. Available in sweet and dry versions. |
Ruby | Youngest Port. Aged 2-3 years in barrels. Made from simpler grapes. Varying quality. |
Tawny | Many years in barrels. A mix of several vintages, 10, 20, 30 and 40 years old. Age is an "average number", and refers more to the style than to storage time. Red-brown colour. The oldest are browner. |
Vintage | Port from a single year. Stored for a short time in barrels. Matured in the bottle for tens of years. Darker than Tawny. |
